You have to come to this little gem!! Hidden off Lomita boulevard, Muodu Shanghai serves some of the freshest and flavorful Chinese food here in the South Bay. I'm not a big fan of Chinese cuisine, mainly because of the grease and MSG, but everything out of the kitchen is fresh...and did I say flavorful? No MSG here!! Their specialty is the Xiao Long Bao, steamed soup dumplings. It's flavored well with a nice balance of soup and meat. Just watch out the soup is delicious but hot (temperature wise). My other favorite is the Signature pan fried pork bun. Same level of juicy deliciousness, but encased in a fried bao. The contrast of the two make this an unforgettable dish.
They do have other more traditional items in the menu: fried rice, noodles, Mongolian beef, teriyaki chicken, honey walnut shrimp, orange chicken. They also have more unique dishes like pork noodle soup, braised lamb soup, salted duck and the green onion pancake.
The biggest plus is that the food is very affordable. We've been to several Chinese/dim sum places and no place gives you your money's worth like Muodu.
Great service, clean and cozy atmosphere, delicious food, and easy on the wallet...what a great find in the city of Lomita!! Whatever you chose, you won't be disappointed. -

Went to Muodu last night for a dinner. It's our first time had dinner at Muodu.
We had lion heads ( ground pork meatballs), the famous Shanghai pan fried buns, wonton soup, chicken wings and braised lamb noodles.
Too sweet, to much sugar added, too much MSG added made us extremely thirsty.
We're first generation American-Chinese, know different Chinese cuisines very well and eat many different Chinese restaurants in the South Bay Area.
Muodu is the only one I give a one star in my review.
I would not recommend anyone in Yelps for this restaurant, I prefer a lollipop better than eating at Muodu.

7:10pm, sat down to order the food. Been waiting outside since 6:30pm. They requested us to move to another table so they could divide the table that we were sitting at to two different party. Then at 7:40 the wonton soup and the XLBs came - to me, that weird - why would you skip the Scallion pancake and not bring that out first? Ok I guess - then at 8:05pm we flagged down the waiter and asked why we only received the two dishes out of the five we ordered. The waiter informed us the kitchen is backed up because it is busy. Ok I got that, so I asked if they didn't make the other three dishes then just cancel it. They stated that I got the pork buns but it wasn't even on my table - only to find out they gave our dishes to the customers that ended up sitting at our original spot.
Ok, seriously how do you guys mess up this bad? It breaks my heart to see your kitchen so backed up to the point that a whole room (my table and four others) were waiting for our food.... it's ridiculous lol
It was my mothers birthday and I was just trying to have a decent dinner with them since I rarely have Friday nights off but this really just killed all the appetite me and my family had. It breaks my heart to post something like this low but honestly I am so disappointed in this establishment. -

Went for lunch with some friends on a Sunday afternoon. We got there and there was no wait at 1130am for a table for 4, yay! Ordered pork xiaolongbao, pork and roe xiaolongbao, broccoli, scallion pancake, and pan fried pork buns. I really enjoyed every dish, though my friends felt that the pork and roe xlb were a little fishy from the roe. Prices were decent for the quality of food we had. Looking forward to my next visit :)

If you like mom and pop type Shanghai style cuisine and don't want to wait for Din Tai Fung, head down toward Lomita and Crenshaw and turn the corner to find Muodu! It really doesn't get any more mom and pop than this... you'll see that the restaurant is a family run business, so you'll see the parents and son running the counter and servicing everyone.
Their specialty is Xiao Long Bao, so order a lot of these amazing dishes. 6 pieces for $6.25? Order about 3 of these dishes and an order of fried rice and call it a day. The broth is delicious and it is the perfect size for the hungry customer. I would suggest trying other items here as well, but it could be hit or miss depending on your personal preferences. I tried their Signature Pan Fried Pork Bun, but it threw me for a curve. I was thinking it would be a steamed pork bun, but it actually is a fried bao with soup in it. Interesting dish!
It does get crowded during lunch because it is a small space, but the service is pretty good and I'm glad Lomita has a decent Shanghai spot to go to!
